What does the Lord expect from us when it comes to speech that we should refrain? If we search the Bible we find that speaking lies is something the Lord abhors. Lies and deceit is an abomination (detestation or hatred) to the Lord.
Proverbs 12:22 (NIV)
The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.
How often we as believers speak lies in the form of excuses? We do not have the holy fear that God is watching us and it is something He hates. If we are determined to please Him, we cannot take lying casually but be aware that we are answerable to Him for taking such sins light.
Psalm 34:13 (NIV)
keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.
