Praying like Elijah

James 5:17 (New International Version)

Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

When we read the above scripture, it gives us so much comfort to see that Elijah was a man just like us. We all know that Elijah was a great prophet who brought down fire. We may assume that since he was a prophet ( a special person because of his identity) amazing things happened when he prayed. But the Word of God says that Elijah was a man just like us, meaning to refer that he had the same weakness, fear, disappointments and even despair similar to us. When we read the whole passage in 1 kings 18:41-44 we get a picture of how Elijah prayed.

Elijah prays for rain on top of Mount Carmel, while he asks his servant to go and see for signs of rain. But the servant comes back six times saying that there is no sign of rain. But Elijah doesn't quit praying. He continues to pray until he sees his prayer answered. Only the seventh time the servant comes with the news that a small cloud is seen... a sign of rain.

Even we are to pray like Elijah until we see our prayers answered. We should not grow weary to pray, just because we don't see signs or results. We are to pray like Elijah till the answer comes...

  1. In the current fast phased life, even the so called followers of Christ miss out to understand the waiting period and feel that forcing God and claiming Gods promises can bend God's plan and rewrite God's timelines for things to happen our life.
