When we live in a closer relationship with God, we keep changing for good. All the sinful and selfish things from us vanishes and we keep changing to be more like Him. No child of God is prefect but is in the process of perfection, and we find that there is nothing such as self in us, it is all Christ in us (when we allow Him to be).
When we live everyday with Him , we can realize His grace and strength in everything we do. We just come to the point of comprehending what is to live by His grace and His spirit; how fallen we are and how His grace lifts us up everytime. We also come to see that we have nothing good in us but everything good in Him. The more we grasp of this truth, the more we want to live with Him and through Him.
2 Corinthians 5:15 (NIV)
And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
